Every week over 280 people come to the Basilica to pray a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament at the Basilica’s Pope Saint John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. There are adorers present and praying for our Church and our City 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Will you sign up to pray a weekly Holy Hour at the Basilica of the Assumption?
The Basilica strives to have two adorers for every hour –
that’s 336 adorers each week.

Street parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please pay attention to all Baltimore City Parking signs, as they differ on every street. The Franklin Street Garage (15 W. Franklin Street Baltimore, MD 21201) is available for an hourly fee. Unfortunately, the Basilica does not have dedicated parking access.
A security guard is stationed at the Basilica 24 hours a day. Starting at 7pm, an officer is stationed at the Adoration Chapel. The officer is able to escort you to and from your car upon request.
We will follow the Baltimore City Schools. If there is a School Delay (of any length), the Adoration Chapel will be open but we ask that you use prudence in determining if you can come in for your scheduled Holy Hour.
If you do not feel comfortable traveling, email Ana at [email protected]. Do not request a sub.
If the Schools are closed, the Adoration Chapel will be closed. (Note: This does not apply to daily mass.) The Adoration Chapel will reopen at 12pm (noon) the next day.
If inclement weather is called for on Saturday or Sunday, we will send out an email with instructions by close of business on Friday.
The altar, by its design and detail including the retabla and tabernacle, was installed to reflect the heritage of the two Basilica apse altars (St. Michael the Archangel and St. James the Less).
The kneeler, which contains a first-class relic of Pope Saint John Paul II, was used by the Holy Father during his 1995 visit to the Basilica.
Also on display is:
A Spanish-made tabernacle with a built-in luna (which safely holds and displays the Sacred Host) is the jewel of the Adoration Chapel. On the outside door of the tabernacle is a custom-made enamel painting depicting Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. Engraved in the base of of the tabernacle is Pope Saint John Paul II’s papal motto, TOTUS TUUS (All Yours).
